Rising 101

Finally, the rise.

After falling and waiting, there is finally, finally, rising:

rise (rīz)
to assume a standing position after lying, sitting, or kneeling

Or, to increase in intensity, force, or speed.

A growing intensity to become upright after, well, being flattened.

Rising looks a lot like falling, except in reverse.

clambering to rise

I don’t know about you, but my rising usually looks like clambering.

Seeing various shapes of rising helps to make it real—hoping for rockets and springs, then begging for any shape at all. Most importantly, you’re imagining the rising, and you realize that the rising will, in fact, happen. Falling is temporary, and so is waiting, no matter how long they last.

Yes, I’m rising. Yes, it has a shape that other people experience too. Yes, it feels great, and at the same time, I’m a bit worried I’ll fall again. Other people experience that too.

Here’s to rising. Indeed, there is a season after falling.
